N.E.R.D continues to release politically charged material with their new Kendrick Lamar-assisted track, “Don’t Do It.” The song, which is also making its radio premiere om Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show, features Pharrell speaking to the young black and brown youth of America on the hook. And K.Dot comes through with some heat on his closing verse.
The socially-conscious song was inspired by Keith Lamont Scott, an African-American man, who was fatally shot by a police officer in Charlotte, North Carolina last year. Police arrived at Scott’s apartment complex to search for an unrelated man with an outstanding warrant. Scott was killed as his wife looked on.
